TOPIC: What do my customers need to know about servicing automotive wire?
Service Tips: Wire and Cable Line
The wire and cable systems, that connect the various electrical components and systems of a vehicle, play a critical role in the vehicles reliable operation. In this section, we will take a look at the function of the various types of wiring systems and some of the factors that influence their performance. Proper service and installation techniques should be followed when installing wire products. Following these procedures will deliver OE performance over the life of the vehicle.
Service Tips - Ignition Wire
It is a good idea to replace one wire at a time starting with the longest wire on the vehicle. Care should be taken to follow the OE routing and to make sure the terminals are fully seated at the spark plug, distributor cap or coil. Some of the wires may be slightly longer for easier routing and application consolidation. Let your customers know that these wires will outperform the OEM wires that came on the car.
Lubricate Plug Boots
Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the inside of the boots (each wire set comes with 1.5 grams of dielectric silicone grease with Teflon). Applying a small coating of our special Teflon lube to the inside of the boot will prevent the boots from seizing to the spark plug. Most of the popular wire sets are now being shipped with the lube already installed to ensure the serviceability of the ignition wire set.
Universal Wire Sets
When your customers are installing a universal set of wires or are making up custom wires special care should be taken to install the terminals correctly. We sell the Crimpmaster tool, which will aid your customers in creating professional terminal crimps. With the right crimp the universal wires will perform to OE specifications.
